The biggest gathering that a world is going to see at one time is Kumbh Mela happening this year at Haridwar. The event has started today (14th Jan) on the auspicious day of Makar Sankranthi. The holy bathe has started from today with a total of 8 holy dips and 3 Shahi bathe. There is gathering of over lakhs devotees at Haridwar to take dip in the holy Ganges at Haridwar in different places. Kumbh Mela occurs every 12 years once at different places such Haridwar, Allahabad, Ujjain and Nasik. This year the Kumbh Mela is taking place at Haridwar.
Long time ago, when God and demon were trying to find the Amrith Kalash. After the Amrith Kalash evolved out of the ocean, both the God and Demon were fight for 12 day which equal to 12 years and 4 drops of Amrith fell at 4 places in India. The places are Haridwar, Allahabad, Ujjain and Nasik. After every 12 year the event is organized at one of the place. It is belief that taking in holy water will bring you prosperous and happiness in life.
